RICHARD PARKIN    

WRITER/PRODUCER/DIRECTOR/EDITOR

Richard Parkin is a Los Angeles based filmmaker and writer. In 2005, he graduated with honors from the University of California, Berkeley and was a recipient of the Roselyn Schneider Eisner Prize; UC Berkeley’s highest recognition in Film/Video arts.

Currently, Richard is completing an M.F.A in Film Directing at UCLA where he received a 2009 Motion Picture Association of America Award, 2010 Army Archerd Fellowship, and a nomination for a 2011 Princess Grace Award.

His most recent work, Contra el Mar, world premiered at the 2011 Palm Springs International ShortFest and has screened at over 20 international film festivals worldwide including the 2012 Los Angeles Film Festival, 2012 Nashville Film Festival, and 2013 Festival Internacional de Cine de Cartagena. The film also received awards from the Directors Guild of America, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and was selected as a National Finalist for the 2012 Student Academy Awards.  In 2013, Short of the Week featured the internet premiere of Contra el Mar and was named a Vimeo Staff Pick. The film has received over 20,000 plays from over 135 countries.

Richard is now in post-production on his latest short project titled Angeles, a collection of vignettes set in Los Angeles. He is also writing several feature length scripts including a long form adaptation of Contra el Mar. For more info, please visit richard-parkin.com

TOPHER OSBORN

DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Topher received an M.F.A in Cinematography from the UCLA School of Theatre, Film and Television.  Working in both narrative and documentary, he has traveled extensively to Ghana, Guatemala, Mexico and throughout the United States shooting short form and feature-length work. He is a frequent contributor of content to HBO, Comedy Central, Versus, Fuel TV and serves as a Director of Photography for Banner Caswell Productions, Caviar Content, Insel Media and One Lens Media.

In consecutive years, 2006 and 2007, Topher was the recipient of a Student Panavision Grant. Additional acknowledgements include a 2007 Fotokem Technical Award, the Mary Pickford Award in Documentary Filmmaking, the National Association of Theater Owners Award and the Edi and Lew Wasserman Fellowship.

LAURA ARVIZU

PRODUCER

Laura is a San Diego, California and Tijuana, Mexico based filmmaker and producer. She has worked with diverse international productions and cultural institutions as a member of Teeka Films; providing consultation and production services to projects filmed in Mexico and the Southwest United States. Credits include Between (Official Sundance Selection '05), Morenita, El Escándalo, Recién Cazado and Pete Small is Dead.

In 2008, Laura produced Luis G. Ramos' La Horda, her first feature length documentary production. The film received a Special Jury Mention at the IV Festival Internacional de Cine de Monterrey and was also chosen to participate in the Young Producers Workshop MoreliaLab, during the IV Festival de Cine de Morelia. Last year she produced Andrés Torres-Vives' The Book of the Border which was later nominated for Best Short Film at the 24th Imagen Award and was an Official Selection of the HBO New York Latino Film Festival, Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival and VII Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia.

Laura received an M.F.A in Production for Television, Film and New Media from San Diego State University. She also lectures on Pre-Production Filmmaking and Introduction to Latin American Cinema at the Universidad de las Californias.
